We have cut a variety of different types and sizes of stones from granite to sandstone, limestone and mica. Our projects have included custom cut stone steps for landscaping as well as for store fronts, wall and pier caps, lintels and sills, keystones and cornerstones, hearths and mantels.
You will find examples of our work in the pictures below, most of which can be enlarged by simply "clicking" on them.
The stone steps in these three pictures were cut from a type of sandstone to various sizes. The rectangle steps ranged between 4.5 and 5 feet long and 18 inches wide. The round step is approximately 8 feet long across the back and 30 inches wide in the middle.
These nine steps were cut from limestone. They average 5 feet long x 18 inches wide. The top step, however, is approximately 8 feet x 2 feet.
Red sandstone boulders were used to cut the steps in these three pictures as well as for the stone foundation under the window of this store front.
Black granite was chosen for the cutting of these steps, both the rectangle and the round ones.
These two pictures show a comparison of two different sets of steps. The one on the left, a type of mica slab was used with very little cutting done. The steps on the right were cut from a type of sandstone.
The two pictures to the right in this selection are custom cut wall caps and a pier cap cut from red sandstone. The top surface of the pier cap was left with a sawed finish and the tops of the wall caps were shot peined.
The lintels to the right were cut from mica slabs and then rock-faced.
This last group of three to the right were all cut from PA treads. Around the pool area, they were used for coping and around the pond for wall caps. As can be seen in these pictures, we can cut a variety of shapes to meet the needs of the particular walls or piers.
The entire fireplace was cut out of a sandstone boulder. The mantel is over 9 feet long, 14 inches high and 10 inches thick. The underneath of the mantel was notched out for the pillasters to fit in. Two slabs were fabricated from the boulder for the hearth to this fireplace. The underneath of the hearth was grooved out for the riser of the hearth to fit into. The riser was made up of five individual pieces. All the pieces to this fireplace were dry-laid and pinned together.
This fireplace was cut using black granite. The hearth is over 10 feet long and 26 inches wide in the middle. The riser to the hearth is made up of five pieces of black granite. The mantel and the pillasters were cut to a thickness of 1.5 inches, however the pillasters were cut as a corner block to give the illusion of a four-inch thick piece of granite. All the pieces were either dry-laid or glued together.
